How to choose a suitable power supply for LED signage

There is a tendency among customers of LED signage to select power supplies with low voltage but high current for their applications (e.g. the RSP-320-5) because of the driving voltage of the LEDs. Generally speaking, the operating voltage is 2.8V -3.3V for white light LEDs, 1.8V-2.2V for red light LEDs, 3.0V-3.2V for blue light LEDs, 2.9V-3.1V for green light LEDs and 1.8V-2.0V for yellow light LEDs, respectively. As a result, many LED signage companies choose 5V models as their main supply source when using standard power supplies.
However, most of the supply voltage for LED signage will trend towards 4.2V/4.5V in the future, thanks to technological innovations in LEDs and better efficiency of driver ICs. The new generation of the RSP series, including the RSP-200/320/500, classifies 2.5V, 3.3V, and 4V as standard models as MEAN WELL has expected the market trend as well as utilizing past experience in the LED signage applications, not only meeting more demands from the customers but also reducing modification requests.

Finally, the company would suggest using products treated with conformal coating for outdoor use as LED signage being exposed to diverse and hostile environments with dusty, highly humid, damp or wet conditions that could affect of the power supplies or damage the power supplies in the worst case if there is no special treatment.
